Just in time for New Year’s celebrations, seafood lovers have a new place in Swansea to shop for their fish.
Clearwater Seafood, a retail store with a takeout menu rivaling most seafood restaurants opened recently at 395 Wilbur Avenue.
The new retail location merges the business’ wholesale operation (Clearwater Seafood) with its retail store, which originally operated as North End Seafood on County Street in Somerset.
Owner Jay Viveiros, who operates it with his wife, Jessica, said he was using a part of the building where Towne Pizza was located at 395 Wilbur Ave. for the wholesale seafood business, which he has since expanded.
When he had the opportunity to take over the entire building, it made sense, he said. As an added benefit, the kitchen is larger than the original location, which will be a big boon for their ever-expanding ready-to-cook items and cooked-to-order fresh seafood dishes such as baked stuffed shrimp, clamboil dinners, and baked stuffed lobster.
The new retail store offers even more of a variety of the high quality, fresh daily seafood customers have come to appreciate at the Somerset location, said Viveiros.
On this particular day, the selection included Maine steamers, local littlenecks, salt oysters, cod, haddock, wild shrimp, scallops, colossal shrimp, salmon and teriyaki marinated salmon.
“It’s fresh every day,” said Viveiros.
The takeout menu offers a range of mostly seafood options incluing chowder and clam cakes, Portuguese stuffies, fish and chips, clam plates, seafood casserole, lobster rolls, and the North End Boatload with fried seafood (whole belly clams, sea scallops and shrimp, served on a bed of fries with coleslaw).
Through its wholesale operation, Clearwater Seafood, Viveiros buys seafood and shellfish direct from harvesters in Maine.
